Caring for your Vancouver Island real estate linoleum floor

At my Vancouver Island real estate property, I have a linoleum floor in my kitchen. I have to care for it by using floor cleaner so that the scuff marks come up easily. Linoleum is an easy floor to put down. I put this floor down myself. But because it scuffs up so easily, especially if people wear black shoes, it can be a real pain to take care of.

One way of caring for my linoleum floor is to use my sock and go across the floor looking for scuff marks. Whenever I see a scuff mark, I go across it with my sock on my foot and take it up. Scuff marks are easy to come up. When kids come over, they do not often take off their shoes and this is what causes the scuff marks.

My wife often mops the floor. We have a dog so we do not have to sweep as often but we do have to mop all the time so the floor is clean. Dogs are like canine vacuum cleaners and will get any human food accidentally spilled on the floor. Once a week my wife uses a green floor cleaner and mops the floor.

In addition to mopping the floor, I help her care for our kitchen floor by scrubbing it a few times a year on hands and knees. You need a soft brush and ordinary dish soap to clean the floor. The way we do it is that one of us scrubs the floor with the soap while the other cleans up the soap with water. It is easier to do this way and we can get the floor done quickly. We have a no-wax floor so we do not have to wax the linoleum floors, which is a good thing as I would not care for that. Waxing a floor is not my idea of a good time.

My wife is always happy when the floor is clean and says that the only way to get the floor clean is to scrub. She says mopping is sloshing around dirty water. She wants a floor to eat off of, but I say “who wants to eat off of the floor?” Besides my dog, that is.
